Mitigation Specialist

Kansas City Capital

Salary: $3,077/month

Job Description: This position involves investigative work for the purpose of developing mental health, medical and social history information necessary to both the guilt/innocence and sentencing phases of murder cases. In adult cases, the prosecution will be seeking a death sentence. In juvenile cases, the prosecution will be seeking a sentence of life without parole. Individual will be responsible for assisting in developing a mitigation plan for presentation at trial.

Duties include interviewing clients; locating and contacting witnesses; locating, collecting, and analyzing educational, medical, mental health, and various other records. Individual will also assist defense attorneys in locating and working with experts, serving subpoenas, coordinating witnesses, creating demonstrative evidence, preparing timelines and genograms of client, researching medical/mental health issues. Travel is required, including some trips with multiple overnight stays. The individual must possess an ongoing flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours. Some of the field investigation will be team oriented, but the individual must possess the confidence and ability to work alone in a variety of urban and rural neighborhoods.

Qualifications: Master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in psychology, social work, sociology or closely related field.
