Job Description

This position involves investigative work for the purpose of developing mental health, medical, and social history information necessary to both the first and second stages of death penalty murder cases. Individual will be responsible for assisting in developing a mitigation plan for presentation at trial or on appeal. Duties include:

  • Interviewing clients
  • Locating and contacting witnesses
  • Locating, collecting, and analyzing educational, medical, mental health, and various other records
  • Assisting defense attorneys in locating and working with experts
  • Serving subpoenas and coordinating witnesses
  • Creating demonstrative evidence
  • Preparing timelines and genograms of the client
  • Researching medical and mental health issues

Travel is required and may involve working evening and weekend hours. Office location can be in Kansas City or Columbia, depending upon candidate preference and office needs.

Qualifications

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in psychology, social work, sociology, or a closely related field.
