Expungement of Criminal Records

Expungement of Criminal Records

Expungement is the court process by which a criminal record is destroyed or sealed.  The Missouri State Public Defender does not handle expungement cases.  However, there is information on the Missouri Courts website regarding the expungement process. To access this information, please click here.

The UMKC School of Law Expungement Clinic provides free legal assistance to those who are eligible to clear their Missouri criminal records but lack the financial means to hire a personal attorney. The clinic is staffed by experienced attorneys/educators and law students who, under attorney supervision, conduct preliminary eligibility assessments, offer representation in expungement proceedings, and share educational resources about Missouri’s expungement laws. Individuals can visit the clinic’s website at www.clearmyrecordmo.org to determine eligibility for Missouri expungement or to fill out an intake assistance application. MSPD does not endorse any particular attorneys or organizations. This link is provided for informational purposes only.
