Missouri Public Defenders are attorneys licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri. We provide legal representation to all indigent persons accused or convicted of eligible state criminal charges, and those whose liberty is jeopardized in sexually violent predator commitment proceedings, at the levels of the State Trial Court, Appellate Court, Missouri Supreme Court, and United States Supreme Court.
To qualify for Public Defender services, you must meet indigency standards as determined by the Public Defender Commission in accordance with state statute.
If you have questions about incarceration policies and procedures for people required to serve time in a correctional facility, the Department of Corrections web site answers many of the frequently asked questions (i.e. visitation rules, phone privileges, etc.).
