COURT REPORTING SERVICES

MSPD works diligently to ensure it receives the best rates possible for court reporting services. MSPD expects panel attorneys to do the same.  To receive the best rates possible in your area of the state, refer to the court reporter list at the link below. Find the county in which the deposition will occur and please use the court reporting company listed for that county.

Please check out our Court Reporter by County Reference Table that was updated January 23, 2023 for a list of all reporters For each county there is one priority reporter and a list of all other reporting services whose prices are comparable and MSPD approved. Make sure you are consulting the list before scheduling the services.

Check with our office for state contract page and attendance rates if court reporter unavailability requires you utilize a reporter who is not on the MSPD list. An attorney requesting funds for a reporter not on the priority listing must include in the litigation expense request an explanation for not hiring the designated reporter.  Attorneys who wish to use a reporter who is not listed for a particular county should first check with MSPD to learn the priority reporter’s page and attendance rates for comparison purposes.

The Litigation Expense Request Form found at the link below must be completed and approved before services are rendered. Expense requests submitted after services are rendered may be denied.

The Missouri State Public Defender (MSPD) cannot pay for services or expenses in advance and MSPD does not pay for routine office expenses.

MSPD cautions panel attorneys against using litigation services firms to arrange depositions.  MSPD will not pay fees charged by litigation services firms for arranging depositions in MSPD cases.  If such a service is used and arranges for a court reporter who charges a higher rate than the contracted rate of the MSPD priority court reporters noted above, the panel attorney may have to pay the difference.
