Advocacy Training Coordinator
The Missouri State Public Defender System is hiring an Advocacy Training Coordinator to work under the direction of the Training Department. Preferred location for position is Columbia, Missouri but other locations may be considered. Individual must be available to regularly travel throughout the state as necessary.
Primary duties will include:
Developing training programs to comply with the MO Bar’s CLE Rule 15.05(a)(1), that states “one hour of ethics training must be devoted exclusively to explicit or implicit bias, diversity, inclusion, and cultural competency”. Assist in training for all employees to help deliver excellent client service. Recruit speakers and experts for training programs and case work. Serve as a resource for employees who are litigating matters relating to bias, discrimination, and other injustices within the criminal legal system.
Assist in recruitment and retention, including outreach to college campuses, career fairs and other community events. Help develop and support Employee Resource Groups to meet the needs of all MSPD employees. Advance and develop mentoring initiatives for employees. Help employees access resources, including wellness resources, to assist them in carrying out their job duties. Assist in ensuring that MSPD is following federal and state employment and anti-discrimination laws.
Individual must have strong verbal and written communication skills; be familiar with social media and audiovisual technology; have proficiency with a variety of computer software packages; be self-motivated, organized, and willing to work on a collaborative team; and support the mission of the public defender to provide high quality representation to our clients. Position will require occasional overnight travel to attend training and recruitment events.
Minimum qualifications include Bachelor’s degree. Preferred qualifications include work experience in education, poverty related work, legal services, or community advocacy. Advanced degree in education, social work, or law is a plus.
Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range is $6,250/month to $7,779/month.
