Commitment Defense Unit Counsel

Salary: Minimum starting salary is $5,064 per month.

Job Description: This position in the Commitment Defense Unit (CDU) is dedicated to the representation of Public Defender clients in Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) commitment cases under §632.480 RSMO. The SVP law is a civil involuntary commitment procedure including trial by jury in probate court. The attorneys are primarily responsible for the preparation and trial of SVP cases, including commitment and release proceedings. The caseload for each attorney is anticipated to include new cases and follow-up litigation of petitions for release.

Position covers the entire state. Overnight travel will be necessary.

Qualifications: Must be a member of the Missouri Bar and have at least one year of experience as a licensed attorney.
