District Defender – Parole Revocation Defense Team (Subject to Appropriation)

Salary: $7,470/month

Job Description: The Missouri State Public Defender is seeking a District Defender to serve as the managing attorney of a new unit representing persons facing parole revocation hearings. This unit will represent indigent persons eligible for public defender representation facing parole revocation hearings with Gagnon factors. The position is subject to appropriation from the Missouri legislature and Governor. The position may be located in Columbia, Kansas City, or the City of St. Louis. Statewide travel will be required.

In addition to caseload responsibilities, the District Defender is responsible for:

  • Creating and implementing office procedures and policies
  • Case assignments
  • Monitoring employee performance
  • Hiring
  • Serving as liaison to the Department of Corrections in developing procedures for the hearings

Qualifications: Must be a member of the Missouri Bar and have criminal law experience. Management experience preferred.
