Investigator
Salary: $2,773/month
Job Description
Individual will be responsible for assisting criminal defense attorneys in investigating criminal cases. Special investigations of law enforcement misconduct and public corruption will be undertaken as necessary and as related to current cases. Individual will act as the office’s process server, with training provided.
Duties include:
- Visiting clients in various county and correctional facilities in Missouri
- Searching for and interviewing necessary witnesses in the case
- Securing and preserving evidence
- Serving subpoenas
- Retrieving work records, mental health records, trial files, and other documents necessary to advance client’s litigation
- Testifying in court proceedings on behalf of the defendant as needed
- Assisting with trial preparation
- Coordinating and assisting with depositions
- Researching, securing, and facilitating expert witnesses
- Light office duties as required
Preferred Qualities
- Successful previous experience uncovering hidden facts, including conducting witness interviews
- Experience with and knowledge of computer and IT systems and social media
- Experience with photography and video/audio systems
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing
- Knowledge of and experience with state and federal sunshine laws a plus
Local and regional travel is required with reimbursement for mileage. The investigator is required to maintain a valid driver’s license and have a personal vehicle available. Use of a rental vehicle is available. Other travel expenses are covered in accordance with state travel regulations.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, criminal justice, social work, or a closely related field; or high school graduation equivalency plus four years of experience in one of the following areas:
- Activities related to investigations, journalism, or closely related areas
- Four years of clerical experience, of which two years must have involved specialized work in investigative or journalism activities
